Hero medics are back home after quarantine

Songjiang’s first group of 16 medics were welcomed home with flowers, banners and blessing cards after their 14-day quarantine in neighboring Qingpu District ended on April 5. The remaining six medics returned on April 14.
They were dispatched by the district to Wuhan in central Hubei Province, former epicenter of the COVID-19 outbreak. On their return to Shanghai, each was quarantined in Qingpu.
At 2:30pm on April 5 as the bus carrying the 16 doctors and nurses arrived at the suburban district’s health commission, family members rushed forward and stood on tiptoe to look for their loved ones.
Chai Lili, chief of the medical team, was the first to get off the bus. On seeing her husband, her eyes were filled with tears. “I really can’t help crying,” said Chai.
Zhu Siwei, a medical worker from Fangta TCM Hospital, crossed through the crowd to reach his daughter. The moment he lifted her, his voice betrayed his emotions.
The daughter of Tang Caifang, from Sijing Hospital, held a bouquet and was standing hand in hand with her father. On seeing her mother, the girl tottered toward Tang’s open arms.
Four elementary school students, classmates of Zhou Xiaoyun, son of medical team member Song Haifeng, danced and sang to welcome his heroic mother.
“The children used to talk often with Zhou online to ease the child’s anxiety while his mother was working on the front line in Wuhan,” said Zhang Min, the children’s teacher.
“Though we are away from Wuhan now, we still care for the place where we fought together against the virus,” Chai said.
Nurses Yu Wenjie, Li Chunhua and Huang Xiaoli, and Li Jin, Pan Ting and Xiong Qiang from Songjiang Mental Health Center returned to Songjiang on April 14.
Members of the medical team all hoped to return to their normal work as soon as possible and inject the spirit of the Wuhan front line into their daily routine.
