Local firms sign huge CIIE deals

Nine purchasing orders were concluded by Songjiang companies by 6pm on the first day of the second China International Import Expo (CIIE), creating a first-day transaction amount of US$67.16 million.

The six companies who took the initiative to purchase were Pinlive Food Co, CNBM Triumph Robotics (Shanghai) Co, Shanghai Laiyifen Co, Shanghai Chuan He Packing Containers Co, Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co and TSRC (Shanghai) Industries.

Among them, Pinlive Food Co reached a procurement contract with Danish company Arla Foods on purchasing dairy products worth US$21.5 million at 9:02am on November 5, becoming the first Songjiang company to seal an agreement during the second CIIE.

Soon afterward, CNBM Triumph Robotics (Shanghai) Co reached an agreement with Swiss industrial giant ABB Group’s Shanghai ABB Engineering Co on purchasing industrial robots and related services worth US$11.38 million.

Shanghai Laiyifen Co followed suit to seal agreements with South Korea’s Daesang Group and Australia Dairy Co on purchasing desserts and snack food worth US$18 million.

To ensure the smooth operation of the expo, volunteers from Songjiang University Town served the occasion with enthusiasm.

Students from schools including Shanghai International Studies University, Donghua University, Shanghai University of Engineering Science and East China University of Political Science and Law set out at around 3:30am and worked for more than eight hours a day.

Students might walk 30,000 steps a day and have a sore throat at the end of a day due to too much talking, but nobody complained.

In addition, Songjiang Power Supply Company sent a team of 12 marketing experts and 10 technicians to safeguard smooth power supplies at the main venue and the expo’s surrounding areas.

The team assisted Qingpu Power Supply Co in 24-hour guarding and patrolling around the National Exhibition and Convention Center and the surrounding transformer substations, switch stations and subscriber stations.

More than 10 hotels in Songjiang, mainly in Songjiang New Town and Sheshan Town, undertook reception tasks for the second CIIE. Their electricity hazard screening had taken place by the end of October.

The event also saw Songjiang’s universities display their excellent craftsman skills.

During the expo’s Shanghai Intangible Culture Heritage Show, students and teachers from Donghua University displayed delicate dolls they had made in cooperation with Miao embroidery inheritors and senior designers. The dolls were wearing qipao, the stylish Chinese dress, and in the shape of Qing Dynasty (1644-1911) princesses.

A total of 155 countries and regions as well as 26 international organizations attended the expo from November 5 to 10.

The exhibition area was around 360,000 square meters. Sixty-four countries hosted exhibitions and 3,893 companies attended the business exhibitions.
