From Tchaikovsky, with love
THE celebrated Russian State Ballet is back again for the end-of-year celebrations with two time-honored works from Tchaikovsky — “Swan Lake” and “The Nutcracker.”
“Swan Lake” is a classic that has been hailed by generations worldwide for its beautiful scenes, touching plot and melodies.
This version features the impressive splendor of the palace ballroom, gorgeous settings, difficult and fascinating dance moves to tell of the tragic romance of Princess Odette.
Different from many other versions, it also displays a full range of human emotions — from hope to despair; from terror to tenderness; from melancholy to ecstasy.
“The Nutcracker,” adapted from E.T.A Hoffmann’s “The Nutcracker and the Mouse King” about a toy that comes alive, is a treat for the whole family to celebrate the New Year.
Lavish scenes and costumes combine to depict a girl’s fantasy adventure in a magical kingdom after she meets a toy nutcracker.
With a timeless score from the composer, the two-act ballet is a blend of mystery and romance.
Joyful Christmas and New Year elements of music and legends are incorporated into the ballet to evoke memories of the past and of childhood.
The Russian State Ballet is one of the most famous ballet troupes in the world. It has toured more than 80 countries and regions, receiving wide acclaim from audiences.
