Shanghai Young Artists Exhibition returns
THE Shanghai Young Artists Exhibition, which was established in 1980, has long been recognized as “the cradle for artists.”
Unfortunately the exhibition ceased in 2013 for several reasons. But there’s good news for young and old art lovers because it is back — for the 15th time.
Organized by Liu Haisu Art Museum and Shanghai Artists’ Association, the exhibit features 151 artworks that were selected from 1,264 candidates around the country.
The exhibition will also give awards to five of the best from the selected artworks currently showcased at Liu Haisu Art Museum through December 12.
The museum also arranges for a documentation exhibition of the events, which showcases what happened in the previous 14 editions at the Shanghai Young Artists Exhibition based on historical materials, including a video of nine award-winning artists and the organizers over the past years.
Methods of anthropology, the sociology of art and archaeology are used in the exhibition design and display.
The spotlight of the historical documentation goes back to mid-1980s, when China had the youngest population in the world with nearly 300 million between the ages 15-24.
The year of 1985 also marked an important milestone in China’s contemporary art history, including the “85 New Wave Movement.”
Nearly 100 artworks were on show in the Shanghai exhibition then, which were filled with bursting new concepts and passion.
Date: Through December 12, 10am-5pm
Venue: Liu Haisu Art Museum
Address: 1609 Yan’an Rd W.
