Chinese paves my road to success

Chinese class at Yew Chung International School of Shanghai is one of the most important classes I take. Living in an ever-expanding world, having a grasp of languages is already a necessity, which will be even more important in the future.

Chinese, the second most widely spoken language in the world (more than 1.1 billion speakers), should be one of the first language choices for anyone.

Compared with many other languages, the ability to speak Chinese will provide a better chance for success in the future.

YCIS does a phenomenal job at slowly but steadily building Chinese language skills. With one of the best Chinese programs in Shanghai, the knowledge acquired from even the first Chinese class is beneficial to one’s future language learning.

We start our Chinese class by reading texts of children going about their daily lives, introducing themselves or hanging out with friends.

As our vocabulary grows, so do the topics. In Chinese as an Additional Language — Level 7 (CAL 7), we currently discuss major world issues, such as global warming.

Our Chinese teachers are kind, friendly and very smart. They make writing essays or learning vocabulary fun. Last week, I wrote a Chinese essay without realizing what I had done, which has happened more and more over the past eight years.

Without this Chinese class, my future would look very different than it does now. Hopefully, learning Chinese will enable me to get a job in China or one that utilizes my multilingual skills.

Chinese really is an important class to me.
