To inherit the Chinese traditional culture
There are hundreds of handcrafts in the Chinese traditional culture. For example, calligraphy, bamboo drifting, shadow play and so on. Among them, I enjoy Jinshan peasant painting, which includes papercutting, clay figurines, stone carving and so on best.
It is created by Chinese peasants working in Jinshan. It can date back to the 1970s. It is colorful, imaginative and exaggerated.
Last year, during the National Day holiday, my school organized some of the students to have a one-day visit to Jinshan. After a long drive, we arrived at a small house. The moment I entered the house, I was amazed at the paintings. They all had wild imaginations, rich colors and exaggerated details. We were able to experience the fun of drawing the Jinshan peasant paintings.
Everyone of us got a blank paper. After thinking hard, I decided to draw a painting of a father and a daughter riding a bike in the park. I drew carefully for fear that any small mistake would ruin the painting’s harmony.
After a long time, I finally finished the painting. There were only the small hours of the afternoon to go through. I carefully looked at the painting drew by me. I was very satisfied with it. Suddenly, I felt I “fell in love with” the Jinshan peasant painting. My parents joked that “You are a small successor of it.”
In my opinion, we should try our best to protect all the traditional crafts, not only Jinshan peasant painting. It is the crystallization of our ancestors’ wisdom. However many of the traditional handcrafts were “critically endangered.” So, let’s take some actions to preserve them.
