Argentine to perform with local chorus
ARGENTINE chorus master Pablo Assante will lead the Shanghai Opera House Chorus and perform well-known Italian opera pieces at a concert on March 12 at the Shanghai Symphony Hall.
The program list includes the drinking song from Verdi’s “La traviata,” the chorus of the Hebrew Slaves from “Nabucco,” the chorus of enormous joy from Donizetti’s “Lucia di Lammermoor,” and the hymn to the Sun from Mascagni’s “Iris.”
Assante, who was born in Quilmes, Argentina, is a gifted musician. He started learning the piano at the age of 8 and graduated from Mozarteum University Salzburg in 2001.
He has cooperated with a group of well-known orchestras, including Carlo Felice Theater, and collaborated with a large number of conductors including Kurt Masur, Colin Davis and Fabio Luisi.
He was also the chorus master for Puccini’s opera “Turandot,” a new production that was staged by the Shanghai Opera House at the last year’s Shanghai Art Festival.
