More women employed in new tourism posts

There are more female workers being employed in emerging and new tourism-related posts, said online travel operator Ctrip. Women account for 68 percent of 5,000 itinerary designers, and their average monthly salary reaches about 6,000 yuan (US$894) to 15,000 yuan with 30,000 yuan in peak seasons.

These designers make tour plans for tourists tailoring to their personalized demands, and the new post is particularly popular among youngsters, it said.

Female designers also earn more than their male counterparts.

Unlike traditional tour guides, online tour guides receive applications online and provide personalized tour schedules for guests. Among the nearly 100,000 online tour guides in China of Ctrip, 60 percent are women, it said.

About 87 percent of them are born in the 1980s and 1990s, and Shanghai, Chengdu, Guilin and Beijing have the largest number of online tour guides.
