Food, catering top festival complaints
Food, catering and accommodation, and clothing topped the list of complaints during the three-day Mid-Autumn Festival holiday, Shanghai’s market watchdog said yesterday.
In total, 813 complaints and tip-offs were forwarded to the Shanghai Administration for Market Regulation during the holiday, a slight increase from the festival holiday last year.
Among the 105 complaints regarding food, 39 involved mooncakes, most of which covered delivery and the redemption of coupons, according to the administration.
A total of 152 complaints were related to catering and accommodation, education training, culture and amusement, and sports, up 59 percent from last year’s holiday.
Poor restaurant hygiene, food safety, smoking, price scams, breaches of contract and refund disputes drew the ire of consumers.
A customer said a hotpot restaurant required minimum consumption and did not make charges transparent, while another said an amusement park only opened five venues instead of eight as promised, the administration revealed.
Another 119 complaints pertained to clothing, home furnishing and appliances, with poor after-sales services, quality flaws and pricing tricks complained.
The complaints are being handled by district market watchdogs and consumer councils, the administration added.
