Penguins to be born at ocean park

About 10 penguins will be born at Shanghai Haichang Ocean Park in Pudong in December and Li Jianrou, a short-track speed skating medalist at the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympics and the park’s first “penguin observer,” will be there.

November is the breeding season for penguins and about 10 penguin eggs have been laid at the park. They will be the first penguins hatched at the park.

A science class on penguins was held over the weekend and Li shared her Winter Olympics stories during the event.

A 10-meter-high Christmas tree inside the park was also lit up, marking the start of the park’s polar ice and snow festival.

In addition, an immersive art exhibition with the theme of oceans and environmental protection was unveiled at the park over the weekend.

The activities are also part of celebrations for the ocean park’s one-year anniversary.
