Sauce for the goose
The Michelin-starred Madam Goose restaurant chain has been fined 30,000 yuan (US$4,430) by Putuo District market watchdog for misleading advertising.
The advertisement in question claimed Madam Goose’s signature roast goose to be a 90-day dark brown goose from Qingyuan in Guangdong Province.
The geese were in fact from Foshan, a city around 100 kilometers from the home of the celebrated waterfowl.
More than 260,000 menus containing the advertisements were involved and were offered at 18 outlets of Madam Goose nationwide.
The ads also appear on the websites of the restaurant.
Wowprime, which operates the chain, has been ordered by Putuo District Market Supervision and Management Bureau to take down the illegal ads.
