Wet and cooler week ahead as plum rain belt becomes stronger
Shanghai is expected to have a wet and cooler week with the plum rain belt moving southwards and becoming stronger.
The 30-degree-Celsius-plus highs will say goodbye for a while with the mercury dropping back to the twenties.
There will be significant thunder and rain today and tomorrow with precipitation reaching 70 to 100 millimeters. Part of the city will have rain of more than 120mm.
Showers will continue through the week with the weekend mainly cloudy. Scattered brief afternoon showers may occur next Monday, followed by a dry Tuesday.
The mercury will range between 21 and 27 degrees this week.
Tropical Storm Nuri, the first typhoon to hit China this year, landed in coastal areas of Guangdong Province yesterday marking the start of the typhoon season. But it will not have any direct impact on Shanghai, according to local weather bureau.
