China into Asian Women’s Championship quarters
China clinched a spot in the quarterfinals of the Asian Women’s Volleyball Championship in Seoul yesterday after beating Indonesia 3-0 for its second victory in Pool D.
Although Indonesia pushed China hard in the second set, the 13-time champion demonstrated its dominance in front of the net with a much taller squad and initiated a 10-point streak in the third set to grab match point before sealing a 25-15, 25-19, 25-12 victory. After beating Sri Lanka on Sunday, the win secured China’s position as Pool D leader and a berth in the quarterfinals. Elsewhere, hosts South Korea defeated China’s Hong Kong 3-0 in Pool A to make the quarterfinals. Japan also reached the last eight following a 3-0 sweep over Kazakhstan whereas Australia is still seeking its first win in Pool B after falling 0-3 to India.
