Olympic silver medalist Tian Tao of China won the gold medal in the men’s 96kg at the Asian Weightlifting Championships in Ningbo, east China’s Zhejiang Province, yesterday. The 25-year-old met no challenge after the snatch competition as he managed to lift 181kg, beating other lifters by a margin of 7 kilos to come into the jerk. Tian, the silver medalist at the worlds last year, only succeeded in the first jerk at 220kg for a winning total of 401kg, taking his next two attempts at 231kg in vain. Seyedayoob Mousavijarai of Iran took silver with a total lift of 373kg while Han Jun-hoon of South Korea grabbed the bronze at 366kg.
