Sun shines in windy 2nd round at CLPGA Q School
Sun Jiaze moved to the top of the leaderboard during second-round play of the China LPGA Tour Qualifying Tournament yesterday as the Guangdong Province teenager held it together in windy conditions for a 71 and a one-stroke lead in Wanning on south China’s Hainan Island.
Through 36 holes at The Dunes at Shenzhou Peninsula East Course, Sun, one of three players to break par yesterday, was 6-under 138. Overnight leader Zhang Yue struggled to a 74 and was one stroke back in equal second with fellow amateur Zhang Ruoxi (72). Liu Yingxian (71) was fourth, two strokes off the pace. Wong Yat-yi (74) of China’s Hong Kong was the top professional, 10 strokes back, in the 74-player field that includes 70 amateurs. The top-20 players at the 54-hole event will get their playing card for the 2021 CLPGA Tour season that features 10-plus events.
