Zhang Yue set the early pace at the 2021 China LPGA Tour Qualifying Tournament yesterday as the 19-year-old amateur opened with a blistering round of 7-under-par 65 for a two-stroke lead in Wanning on south China’s Hainan Island.
With 20 playing cards on offer for the upcoming CLPGA Tour season, fellow Chinese amateurs Sun Jiaze and Zhang Ruoxi carded first-round scores of 67 in the windy conditions at the 54-hole tournament being played on The Dunes at Shenzhou Peninsula East Course. Liu Yingxian, another amateur, was four strokes back in fourth on 69, a stroke ahead of Hung Chieh-ning of Chinese Taipei. Wong Yat-yi (74) of China’s Hong Kong was the top professional in the 74-player field that includes 70 amateurs.
