Ding to face King in world championship first round
China’s top potter Ding Junhui will meet Englishman Mark King in the first round at the Snooker World Championship, which starts tomorrow in Sheffield, Britain.
The draw for the final stages of this year’s worlds was made yesterday. The top 16 seeds were randomly drawn against the 16 players coming through the qualifying rounds, which finished on Tuesday. Ding, the world No. 11, will play world No. 46 King in the opening round at the Crucible Theatre. If the 33-year-old wins he will probably meet five-time world champion Ronnie O’Sullivan, who needs to get past Thai Thepchaiya Un-Nooh. Yan Bingtao, 20, was drawn to face qualifier Elliot Slessor, while Liang Wenbo, 33, will play Australian Neil Robertson. Reigning world champion and world No. 1 Judd Trump will meet Tom Ford and three-time world champion Mark Selby’s first opponent is Jordan Brown.
