Chinese teen Wang wins
Chinese teen Wang Jianjiahe, the reigning Asian Games champion, won the women’s 1,500-meter freestyle title on Wednesday at the US Pro Swim Series meet in Des Moines, Iowa. The 16-year-old captured the opening event of the four-day meet while Danish Olympian Anton Ipsen took the night’s only other title in the men’s 1,500 free. Wang won in 15mins 46.69secs with 33-year-old Kristel second in 16:17.92 and China’s 17-year-old Li Bingjie third in 16:19.71. Wang won the 400, 800 and 1,500 free titles and helped a 4x200 free relay triumph at last year’s Asian Games.
