Super Swede brings ‘Sunrise Tour’ to town

SWEDISH singer-songwriter Sophie Zelmani will be promoting her “Sunrise Tour” show in Shanghai on May 23 and 24.

Born in Stockholm in 1972, Zelmani started playing the guitar at the age of 14. And despite no professional training, the talented self-taught musician became a singer-songwriter and recording artist.

Zelmani released her first single in 1995, called “Always You,” and recorded her debut album with Sony the same year. The prolific artist has released 13 albums so far, including “Sing and Dance,” “Love Affair,” “Memory Loves You,” “Soul” and “My Song.”

She was awarded a Swedish Grammy for Best Newcomer in 1995 and was also nominated in the Best Female Pop Singer category.

Zelmani has also contributed music to the TV series “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” and “Dawson’s Creek.” Her cover of Bob Dylan’s “Most of the Time” appears on the soundtrack to “Masked and Anonymous” and also on the album Cohen — The Scandinavian Report.

The 46-year-old fully expresses her inner-self in her music. She said in an interview that during the writing process of her masterpieces “the only things that works for me is to follow my instincts exactly and trust wherever it takes the music.”
