There’s no time limit on Curfew’s cocktails

AFTER operating La Galerie wine bar for a year, Taiwanese-born bar owner Tina Su recently formed a new partnership and opened Curfew to replace the old concept. Curfew is a trendy, younger spot with aspirations to become a chilled cocktail lounge during weekdays and a fun nightlife hotspot at weekends.

Accessible and centrally located, the interior space has been enlarged and the lounge gives way to high tables, cushioned lounge seats and communal tables. The nightlife spot is very groovy, featuring pop art inspiration, splashes of color and iconic imagery from the 1950s art movement.

The outdoor patio is a perfect escape for a cigarette break and to cool down after dancing inside. And as the summer heat cools it’s also an ideal after-work place to chill out.

Curfew welcomes all walks of life at the weekend, from cocktail connoisseurs to hip fashionistas and nightlife scenesters to the multi-cultural international community. The cocktail bar can accommodate up to 150 people and plays host to an array of eclectic and eccentric events, ranging from themed parties to DJ-driven nights. It also plans to work with local talent to provide live music performances in the near future.

Mixologist Brian Lu is in charge of the craft cocktails at Curfew. Before joining Curfew, Brian had been the bar manager at Woo Taipei, ranked 20th in Asia’s 50 Best Bars 2016. Most recently the skilled bartender plied his trade at Mary & Magnate in Shanghai.

The house signatures accommodate all palates and likes, ranging from fun twists on classic cocktails to more inventive aperitifs. Of all the signature cocktails on offer, the Adult Libre, based on the classic rum and coke drink, was my favorite. It was much more than an ordinary Cuba Libra. The drink was elevated by the espresso, winter melon syrup, lime juice and garnishing with sugar cane, orange peel and nutmeg. The result was a more complex version. For those preferring something classy, it has to be Penicillin, the shot of Scotch whiskey, honey and ginger really tickles your taste buds.

Curfew is also finalizing the early evening food menu to serve aperitivo-appropriate snacks and savory plates to compliment the enjoyment of the establishment’s beverages.
