Nvidia turns to gaming, AI for growth
ARTIFICIAL intelligence is “automating the world” in industries including e-commerce, health care, transportation, manufacturing and entertainment, Nvidia, the world’s leading graphic and AI processor maker, has said.
A delivery robot by Meituan Dianping, product recommendation mechanisms by Alibaba, AI cloud services offered by Baidu, and autonomous driving by brands like FAW and Chery were all featured at Nvidia’s GPU Technology Conference, held in Suzhou.
AI-featured high performance computing and cloud services are “automating the world,” said Jensen Huang, Nvidia’s chief executive.
Nvidia China’s business is growing rapidly with “revenue doubled” annually in the past years, thanks to surging demand by AI-driven business like dot-com firms and data centers, said Jams Zhang, general manager of Nvidia China.
The company also announced Chinese clients and partners, including Baidu, Alibaba and Tencent, to Huawei, Lenovo, FAW and Chery.
Nvidia, whose share price has dropped by almost half in the past month, admitted business has been influenced by the uncertain environment of cryptocurrencies. This has lead to waning demand for graphics processing units which are used to mine for digital currency. But it emphasized the company is focusing on gaming and AI business now.
Nvidia is “hopeful and confident” the US and China trade relationship will return to normal.
