Balance, fun in the land of ‘Serendipity’

Students at SSIS read the classic dystopian novel “The Giver” and in response created their own Utopia. Here are some of the features of one such Utopia.

The Utopia we created is called “Serendipity.” In order to keep our Utopia perfect, we emphasize open-mindedness and balance because we think it’s important that everyone is accepted and that people have a balanced lifestyle in order to be happy.

In Serendipity, the housing is ideal because the layout promotes an inclusive, balanced lifestyle. In Serendipity, houses are organized into circular cul-de-sacs, with a park and recreation center in the middle of the circle.

This recreation center has a game room, a small sports center, and areas where people can just hang out and socialize. In doing this, people can form tight bonds with close-knit communities inside their cul-de-sac, and this allows people to have fun.

This reinforces the key idea of “balance” as it allows the citizens to have a balance between work and family, as this design encourages people to have fun with family and friends, not always focus on work.

In Serendipity, the recreation centers can help reinforce open-mindedness by providing them with lots of options regarding the activities they can do and fun they can have. In addition to the smaller recreation centers in the cul-de-sacs, there will also be larger recreation centers only a bike-ride away. These centers will include everything from amusement park rides to spas, basketball courts libraries, and anything else, so that everyone can be catered for, but can also try new things and take risks.

They will also be surrounded by restaurants from all over the world. Available food will include Thai, Korean, Italian, Mexican, and countless other cuisines.

Citizens will get to experience different entertainment and food, which will gradually make them inclined to try new things. This supports our key traits, as it makes our community more open-minded and accepting.
