Passengers delayed, stranded on trains after Wynyard station power outage

Tuesday, 20 Dec 2016 16:42:42 | Siobhan Fogarty

Hundreds of Sydney rail commuters have been left stranded and facing long delays as a power outage and a broken down train at Wynyard station stall services.

As of late Tuesday evening, buses were replacing trains on the T1 North Shore and Northern Line trains from Wynyard to North Sydney due to urgent power supply repairs at Wynyard.

No trains from the city were able to travel past Wynyard and authorities were urging the public to delay their journeys or allow plenty of extra travel time, listen to announcements and check indicator boards.

A Transport Management Centre spokeswoman said "T1 North Shore line trains heading towards Chatswood are starting from North Sydney instead".

"T1 North Shore line trains to the city are running as normal," she said.

Passengers can catch a T1 Northern Line train via Strathfield to Epping then change for a train to their destination.

Passengers catching trains on the T2 Airport Inner West and South and T3 Bankstown, as well as people travelling away from the city on the T1 Western and Blue Mountains lines and the Central Coast and Newcastle Line, should allow additional travel time.

Passengers have taken to social media to vent their frustration, with some saying they have been stuck on trains for more than an hour.
