More job losses have been announced in the resources industry in Gladstone in central Queensland.
Queensland Alumina Limited (QAL) is cutting jobs at its Gladstone operations but will not say how many positions will be affected.
The Member for Flynn, Ken O'Dowd, said it was a concern after the loss of hundreds of construction jobs at the city's three liquefied natural gas plants.
"I hope families aren't affected," he said.
"No-one likes to see job losses. Maybe there's enough people there who want to take a redundancy package, they might want to move on or might want to retire, so let's hope the ongoing effect is minimal."
Gladstone Mayor Gail Sellers said a funding announcement from the State Government would help to offset the impact of the latest job cuts.
The Premier yesterday announced an accelerated infrastructure program for the Gladstone region, including work at schools in Clinton, Tannum Sands and Rosedale, as well as projects at the Hillclose residential estate and work by the Gladstone Area Water Board.
Councillor Sellers said the QAL cuts would hurt.
"Job losses in the Gladstone region are always disappointing for me," she said.
"At this time most of the people in the community did see this coming.
"The prices of aluminium are at an all-time low.
"Many people will have to look for another position in the Gladstone region and perhaps that's why the news that came from Parliament yesterday is good news."
