C919 and Bombardier makers seek cooperation

CHINA'S homemade jumbo jet producer today signed a framework agreement with Canadian plane maker Bombardier in Shanghai to explore long-term cooperation possibilities on technologies, products and services.

The two sides may cooperate in product marketing to enhance their presence in rising and mature markets, Commercial Aircraft Corp of China said in a press release today.

Under the agreement, the two sides may also jointly purchase materials for COMAC's C919 jets and Bombardier CSeries family to reduce costs, an official of the COMAC told Shanghai Daily today.

"C919 and CSeries are both 150-seat jets so their target markets are similar. The two companies will try to find similarities in the two series in order to have long-term cooperation," he said.

China is set to invest 200 billion yuan (US$30.48 billion) to develop C919 jets to reduce reliance on aircraft built by Boeing and Airbus. All facets of the process -- from design to production -- will be done in China.
