Bukhara Indian Grill and Lounge truly authentic

Diners who love Indian cuisine are lucky to have Bukhara Indian Grill and Lounge on Hongmei Road in Hongqiao. No longer do they have to put up with long flights before tasting their preferred cuisine since they can have the most authentic Indian food right in the city.

From appetizers to dessert, from the decor to its service, Bukhara guarantees diners that it is fully, authentically Indian. They even have their clay ovens shipped from India and replaced once a year to guarantee a consistently perfect flavor.

Opened in 2006, the restaurant has gained recognition from a number of customers and has become a home-like kitchen among Indian circles in Shanghai. And rather than stop at what they already achieved, they make every effort to transform their best to even better in terms of both food and service.

Their new Masala Papad is a cone-shaped delicacy stuffed with sapid onions and tomatoes. Papad is a thin, disc-shaped traditional dish that goes well with meals and snacks, but diners sometimes have a love-hate relationship with its crispy crust, which can leave crumbs everywhere on the table. Bukhara has come up with a solution in making it as easy and pleasant to eat as having an ice cream cone.

The signature tandoori chickens and fish is delightful. The Chicken Hariyali Kabab is prepared with boneless chicken wrapped with green sauce made from mint.

The Tandoori King Fish is charcoal grilled and has a smoky aroma while it remains tender and juicy. And the king-sized dish definitely matches its name.

Bukhara provides a range of choices for vegetarians, too. The Subz Bukhara is the chef’s special dish and is made from vegetables and cheese. It makes a good companion for the naan bread. Specialties from North India can also be found, such as the Sarson Ka Saag, made with mustard leaves.

Biryani is a complex, rich-based dish that can be made with many different ingredients, including chicken, lamb, prawns, vegetables or fish.

Indian-style dessert is a must-try at Bukhara. The Malai Kulfi is ice cream flavored with dry fruits and made from scratch. It’s nothing like the ice cream from stores, it’s creamy and pure with moderate sweetness.

The Mango Lassi is said to have gained a thumbs up from everyone who tries it. It is a yoghurt-based drink blended with mango pulp and is thicker than you normally see elsewhere.

Bukhara is also a great place for parties and events, with its large banquet hall on the third floor. It can accommodate up to 200 people and is equipped with audio and video functions.

Great deals that offer extra value are available on weekdays, with a five-course set lunch for 90 yuan (US$14.8).

Bukara also offers a huge brunch setting during weekends with a large varieties of dishes including free flow of beer and juices. It costs just 150 yuan a person, available at 11am to 3pm.
