Storm to lash city as weather bureau issues three alerts
RAINSTORM, wind and thunder alerts were issued today by the Shanghai Meteorological Bureau.
The bureau issued a red rainstorm alert, the highest in a three-tier warning system. It was the first time the bureau issued the red alert for the entire city this summer.
Both the thunder and wind alerts were yellow. Thunder alerts are yellow - the lowest warning - orange and red. Wind alerts are blue, yellow, orange and red, which is the highest warning.
More than 60 millimeters of rain is expected in the city this afternoon, the bureau said.
Strong winds of between 50 and 88 kilometers per hour were expected during the storm and thunder was expected throughout the afternoon.
The bureau reminded residents to be careful if they go outdoors.
