Pens extend Malkin

RUSSIAN forward Evgeni Malkin has agreed an eight-year US$76 million contract extension with the Pittsburgh Penguins, the National Hockey League team announced on Thursday. The league's reigning most valuable player, Malkin has a year left on his present contract but his new deal, which begins in the 2014-15 season will run through until 2022. The contract has an average annual value of US$9.5 million.
