Program Code: 0909346130905012 Source: Wenhui Daily Cheng Meihua came to Shanghai in 1980 after working for six years in a silk rug factory in Rugao, a county in Jiangsu Province. She founded the Jinshan Silk Rug Factory which won top awards for the quality of its export products five years in a row from 1987 to 1992. She said Jinshan silk rugs are superior to similar products made elsewhere in China in the quality of its materials, innovative techniques and pattern design. But the silk embroidery industry is declining as many skilled workers retired while few young people want the tedious, low-paying job. Cheng hopes the government can do something to keep the industry.
