Shanghai to add 250 more kilometers to the existing 617km Metro network
Shanghai plans to extend its Metro network further by 40 percent from 2017 to 2025, the city’s development and reform commission said.
According to the plan, nine Metro lines, stretching 250 kilometers, will be constructed during the eight-year period.
The plan has been put up for environmental evaluation.
The city's Metro network currently stretches 617 kilometers, including 29 kilometers of maglev line with 366 stations.
Earlier reports said the south extension of Line 5, the third phase of Line 8, third phase of Line 9 and Line 17 are expected to be put into service by the end of 2017; the second phase of Line 10, Line 13 (from Changqing Road to Zhangjiang Road) will be put into operation by the end of 2018; while Line 14, 15 and 18 are expected to launch by the end of 2020.
