Truck hits roadside tree, halts buses on Nanjing Road

A truck loaded with empty water barrels hit a tree and drove onto the sidewalk of downtown Nanjing Road W. this morning, injuring an elderly flower vendor.
The accident happened around 11:30am when the 5-ton truck scratched a curbside tree on Nanjing Road W. near Nanhui Road in Jing'an District and lost control, the driver said.
The truck crashed into a power pole for electric buses and halted all the electric buses on the road.
The driver was not injured in the accident but the truck was seriously damaged and empty water barrels tumbled down, hitting an old woman who was selling flowers on the sidewalk. Her injury was not serious.
The truck has been towed away and traffic has returned to normal.
