Djokovic beats Federer 3-1 at Australian Open

WORLD number one and defending champion Novak Djokovic faced17-time Grand Slam champ Roger Federer in the Australian Open semifinal. The pair had played each other 44-times in the past each winning on 22 occasions, so whoever won would take the upperhand, and make it to the final in Melbourne. And the Serb dismantled the man many think is the greatest player of all-time, showing why he is without question the top men’s player in the game today.
The first set took a little more than 20 minutes to play as Djokovic was a different level than Federer, hitting a brilliant angled cross-court winner as he won the set 6-1.
The second set more of the same, as he takes that 6-2, Djokovic dismantled the world number three and led 2 sets to love after 45 minutes.
Federer put up more of a fight in the set, but the Serb again showed off his all-court game, as he chased down a drop volley and flicked it cross-court for a winner.
Federer was not ready to give-up and showed the world number one that he also had the legs to get to a drop shot, and from almost the identical spot hit the winner, as he got a break. The crowd loved it, and that includes all-time great Rod Laver.
That spurred the 17-time grand slam champ and he was able to close the margin when Djokovic hit long to give Federer the set, and force a fourth.
In eighth game of that set, on serve, and the point of the match, Federer’s drop shot was retrieved and he was then forced to retreat, Djokovic could not put away the smash or the volley, and the Swiss unleashed a backhand winner. But Federer lost that game.
That means Djokovic could serve for the match, and when a weak backhand from Federer went into the net, the world number one clinched a four-set win and qualified for a fifth straight Grand Slam final.
