A four-year-old boy drowned in a paddling pool in Xianyang, Shaanxi Province on January 3 after struggling more than 3 minutes.
The tragedy happened in the Spa World at the Ocean Spring Resort, when his mother, surnamed Xiao, took him and his sister to play there.
As the footage shows, the boy walked from the side of the pool to the middle at first. Soon, he began to struggle in the water. Though his mother was just 3-4 meters away from him, she didn't notice and focused on her mobile phone.
Later, Xiao found her son was missing and asked the staff for help.
After searching for more than an hour, they finally found the boy in the water. He had already stopped breathing.
According to media reports, the pool has a 30-centimeter shallow end and a 1.3-meter deep end, which is divided by a low wall. The boy drowned at a depth of 1.1 meters.
The Spa World is now closed to cooperate the investigation by police.
