A woman has been detained by police after she allegedly threw her 2-year-old son from the 7th floor on the morning of June 14 in Huanggang City, central China's Hubei Province, Wuhan Evening News reported.
A video shot by a citizen shows the child was lying on the grass. Paramedics carefully put him onto a stretcher.
The child was then rushed to Hong'an County People's Hospital. Doctors there found the child was still alive but in critical condition. He was transferred to the Tongji Hospital in Wuhan City for further treatment.
Doctors said the child was suffering multiple injuries all over his body and began surgery immediately. The boy did not survive surgery and was pronounced dead at the hospital around noon time yesterday.
The child's father, Xiong Guolun, told the newspaper that his wife was mentally ill. Her condition had been deteriorating since last summer but showed some sign of recovery last month.
Police said they are still investigating.
