A 22-year-old woman who was reading mobile phone while crossing the street was severely hit by a car in Nantong, Jiangsu Province, on the late night of November 22.
The driver surnamed Cao rushed away right after the incident, but confessed two days later to the police.
According to media reports, the young phubber, surnamed Xu, is recovering at the hospital after medical treatment.
Cao, the runaway driver, is now detained for driving without a license as he was deprived of his driving license in 2012 for drug taking.
While many netizens criticized Cao’s irresponsible act after the terrifying moment went viral online, some said the young woman should also take part of the responsibility as she failed in using the zebra to cross the street and paid too much attention on her mobile phone.
