A video showing two auxiliary police officers helping an elderly person across a busy intersection has been circulating on Chinese social media.
In the footage, the elderly person can be seen limping across the zebra crossing in Laizhou, Shandong Province, on March 20. But the person got caught as traffic lights changed. First, cars turned left across their path and then vehicles from the other direction began coming through.
Two auxiliary police officers on their motorcycle who were stopped at the red light saw the situation.
The officer on the backseat got off the motorcycle and walked in front of the elderly person to clear a path.
When the light changed, the second officer rode the motorcycle to the middle of the road to divert traffic.
The video, which was first posted on Weibo by a policeman from Jiangsu's Rudong County on March 21, has been shared almost 20,000 times and won more than 45,000 likes.
Many netizens applauded the two officers and said they did a good job.
However, one netizen said she was disappointed to see no car slowing down to let the elderly go first.
