Alibaba partners with Australian Trade and Investment Commission

ALIBABA Group has forged a partnership with the Australian Trade and Investment Commission to explore trade opportunities as the e-commerce giant added another country to its global level of collaborators.
"(The agreement) provides a new framework to ensure more businesses, especially small and medium enterprises, can benefit through the partnership between Austrade and Alibaba," Jack Ma, Executive Chairman and Founder of Alibaba Group, said in a statement today.
Alibaba's business to consumer site Tmall currently hosts altogether 16 national pillions to sell a wide range of imported goods including diapers to nutritional supplements to personal care products to Chinese consumers that are seeking premium products to enhance their quality of life.
The strategic collaboration between Alibaba and Austrade also include an annual “Australian Fresh Food Week” sales promotion and education event through Tmall's fresh food channel.
Australian first time exporters, particularly SMEs, are expected to receive additional support as well as Alibaba's assistance in commercializing new digital technology and services in China.
The announcement of the partnership came after the business leaders from the G20 Group put forward an initiative during the summit in Hangzhou over the weekend to create a global e-commerce platform, the electronic world trade platform (eWTP), aiming at reducing trade barriers for SMEs and promoting cross-border trade.
The eWTP was a concept first put forward by Alibaba's Jack Ma, and the G20 leaders' communiqué released on Monday also praised the initiative, saying that "We welcome the B20's interest to strengthen digital trade and other work and take note of it's initiative on an Electronic World Trade Platform (eWTP)."
