APPLE beat Wall Street's revenue and profit forecasts Monday, selling more iPhones in China during the first quarter than in the United States for the first time.
Apple's revenue in China jumped 71 percent to US$16.8 billion, although that was aided by gift-buying for the Chinese New Year, which occurred in February this year.
While Apple gave no sales figures for the new Apple Watch, the company's Chief Executive Tim Cook says China's expanding middle class is fueling iPhone sales.
The iPhone 6 was launched last fall in China, which produced the bulk of Apple's sales. Apple sold 61.2 million iPhones in the first quarter; up 40 percent from the year-ago period, but down from the record-breaking holiday quarter.
