Born the new records of Singles' Day

CONSUMER frenzy kept pushing online transaction to a new record. Alibaba just announced that by 15:19 today, gross merchandise volume on its retail platform surpasses last year’s Singles’ Day sales size of 91.2 billion yuan (US$13.6 billion).

Mobile payment is also being adopted by more and more shoppers with 83 percent of payment completed through mobile devices. The total number of payments handled by Alibaba’s payment affiliate Alipay surged to 200 million at 1:06 am today with peak value hitting 120,000 times per second.

Other online shopping sites reported upbeat sales figures as well with more and more consumers embraced online shopping on this phenomenal occasion.

JD.com said transaction volume as of 12 am yesterday added 78 percent from a year ago. Kaola.com, NetEase’ wholly owned online shopping site which is dedicated to imported goods, said sales already hit 150 million yuan within one hour after mid night today.
