Chinese online shoppers get connected with Stripe
SILICON Valley online payment service start-up Stripe said it has partnered with China's home grown digital payment providers Alipay and WeChat Pay to allow overseas merchants using its platform to accept payments from a vast majority of Chinese consumers.
The partnership allows online merchants using Stripe to integrate the ability for Chinese users to pay with Alipay and WeChat Pay on their websites, the company said.
Alipay said in an email statement today that the link-up with Stripe helps it link consumers with overseas businesses in more than 25 countries which include retailers like Target and mobile vehicle hailing service Lyft.
Overseas shopping have been booming in China but most consumers still have difficulty sorting out payment and through digital platform offered by Alipay or WeChat that they're familiar with would save a lot of extra trouble.
Alipay and WeChat have also been seeking overseas expansion by connecting with as many as overseas merchants as possible and they have reached multiple collaboration deals with overseas third party payment service providers.
One-time payments through Alipay will be available to international users, while WeChat Pay support will begin in private beta, and Stripe is also testing subscription-type transactions for Alipay.
