Consumer confidence unchanged in April

CHINA'S consumer sentiment remained unchanged in April as improving economic outlook offset a decline in consumer confidence, a private report said today.
The country's consumer confidence index stood at 94.2 last month, same as in March and down from February's 94.7, Market News International (MNI) said in a report released today.
The reading has remained in a tight range since November as China's consumer sentiment on current conditions fell after rising for three consecutive months.
The decline was led by weaker sentiment on personal finance and business conditions, but it was later offset by rising expectation for a sharp rebound in the five-year business outlook.
However, overall consumer sentiment could decline if economic conditions fail to improve soon, said the report.
Consumer willingness to buy durable goods waned in April after hitting a 29-month high the month before. Desire to buy a car also fell after growing for three months.
Consumer attitude for the real estate market gained for the fourth straight month as price expectations remained high despite new measures to cool the market.
Sentiment on the stock market recovered slightly after two months of retreat.
