Driverless vehicles
SHANGHAI is upgrading facilities for testing self-driving vehicle as it seeks to promote the development of the green sector.
A testing and demonstration site has been established in the Lingang Special Area of the China (Shanghai) Pilot Free Trade Zone.
This test zone is unique because of its proximity to a major port, transport facilities and industrial sites, allowing for development of autonomous commercial vehicles as well as passenger cars.
It includes an area that can simulate rainfall and a 500-meter tunnel, the longest of its kind in China.
Passenger cars and buses can also be tested there to demonstrate how a vehicle detects bus stops, pedestrians and other obstacles on the road.
