SHANGHAI will hold the 19th China International Industry Fair to showcase its advanced technologies worldwide in a bid to bolster the country’s industrial upgrading, the local government said yesterday.

The fair will present technologies and products involving advanced machine tools, metal processing, industrial automation, robots, new energy, information technology and aviation.

The city aims to attract the latest innovation and technologies to bolster China’s industrial upgrading, especially in developing smart manufacturing and green energy, said Rong Zhiqin, deputy director at the Shanghai Commission of Economy and Information Technology.

The fair’s highlights include innovation, artificial intelligence, smart manufacturing and green economy. Special exhibition areas will focus on artificial intelligence chips, face recognition applications, machine learning systems, advanced medical devices, digital manufacturing systems and new materials such as graphene.

A total of 2,562 companies from 28 countries and regions will attend the fair, to be held from November 7 to 11, at the National Exhibition and Convention Center with over 160,000 visitors expected to attend, Rong said.

Alongside exhibitions, the fair will hold forums including 2017 Innovation and Emerging Industries Development International Forum, Global City Information Forum, Made in China 2025 Forum and 2017 World Autonomous Vehicle Ecosystem Conference, said Cao Gang, an official at the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology.

The UK, the guest country of honor this year, will set up a special area at the fair to showcase its latest technologies and services in fields covering automobile, aviation, ocean engineering and information technology.

The fair will hold a special talk at the Made in China 2025 Forum on Tuesday to address collaboration between China and UK to boost innovation.
