Gala celebrates 20 years of French Chamber
MORE than 700 people enjoyed a glittering night at Pudong Shangri-La at the annual gala thrown by the French Chamber of Commerce and Industry in China. It was also CCIFC's 20th birthday party.
The colorful and vibrant event on May 26 brought together the most prominent French entrepreneurs and artists working and living in the "Paris of the Orient," the commerce, finance, media and fashion center of China.
French Champagne, cocktails, rich cheese and chocolates by Melody Paris were served to guests taking in the splendid, glittering views of the Bund and Huangpu River from a capacious balcony.
While some guests feasted on the view of historical buildings representing financial powers as well as neon lighted cruise ships on the Huangpu, others played blackjack and roulette.
Spotlighted in the corner of the hall was the Citro?n C4 Aircross, the boutique French marque's first SUV, which was exhibited at the Beijing Auto Show last month. The stylish, relatively fuel-efficient vehicle will soon hit the Chinese market.
A compact show room was set up by 16ème Nord, evocative of a Parisian boutique. The elegant apparel combines classical and modern, formal and leisure.
The gala opened with a video created by G25 Creative Studio celebrating the chamber's 20th birthday. In the film, skyscrapers were transformed into coiled springs and the Oriental Pearl TV Tower became a bouncing jack-in-the-box, creating a vibrant blend of Chinese and French culture.
The banquet hall audience was addressed by Annick de Kermadec-Bentzmann, president of the chamber.
"CCIFC has come through two decades since its first establishment in 1992 as a business club. Now it is the world's third-largest French chamber of commerce," she said. "CCIFC provides a collaborative platform for the French companies here to share information, and to establish cooperation with Chinese companies. It plays an important role in French companies' development in the country."
Sylvie Bermann, the French ambassador to China, and Emmanuel Lenain, the consul general of France in Shanghai, both greeted the crowd.
The event was hosted by Jin Xing, a famous modern dancer, choreographer and actress who entertained the audience in French, Mandarin and English.
Five Miss France put on a runway show of elaborate wedding dresses by Pronuptia, haute couture by Le Bo Couture specially designed for the event, and black pearl jewelry by Robert Wan. The parade ended with male models presenting the fashions designed by 16ème Nord.
A dance was performed by lovely Tahitian dancers, soprano Qiu Shuwei performed "La Vie En Rose" and finally sang the birthday song to celebrate the chamber's 20th anniversary.
Guests toasted Sino-French friendship, the success of CCIFC in the past 20 years, and its bright prospects. As Confucius said, "At 20, I was crowned into adulthood. At 30, I planted my feet firmly upon the ground."
CCIFC expressed special thanks to Platinum Sponsors Citro?n, Champagne Barons de Rothschild by ASC, Groupe Accor, Yue Sai by L'Oréal, G2S Creative Workshop, Mythique by Val d'Orbieu, and Gold Sponsors, Adamas, BNP Paribas, Ernst & Young, Le Bo Couture Paris, 16ème Nord.
