Medical aesthetics thrives in China

MEDICAL aesthetics industry in China grows rapidly this year, but there remains great market potential, according to a recent global beauty trend report by pharmaceutical company Allergan.

The report was based on an online interview of nearly 7,700 women who are aged between 18 and 65 years across 16 countries including China, South Korea, Australia, France, Germany, United States and United Kingdom.

Chinese women spend US$83 a month on facial care, which ranks first among 16 countries. It compares with South Korean women, who spend US$63, and globally, women spent an average of US$36 per month, according to the report. It also found Chinese women are willing to spend the most on their cheek, followed by eyes and nose.

The report is published by Allergan, an Irish pharmaceutical company which is headquartered in Dublin. The company focuses on developing, manufacturing and commercializing branded pharmaceuticals, devices and biologic products with 16,000 employees in nearly 100 countries.
