Metro and 2 firms tie up

METRO Cash & Carry China yesterday signed an agreement with two companies to expand in e-commerce and food delivery in the country.

Under the deal, Huohe Shuanghui Logistics Investment Co and Shanghai Dah Chong Hong Logistics Co will provide cold-chain logistics and temperature-controlled warehousing across China’s coastal and inland areas to support Metro’s business expansion.

“We are confident that enhanced capabilities will support our expansion as well as to facilitate our multi-channel strategy in China by serving e-commerce and food service delivery channels in addition to Cash & Carry stores,” said Jeroen de Groot, president of Metro China.

He said the company has been working with Shequ001.com, an online supermarket, to deliver fresh and processed food. It is talking with third-party online platforms such as Tmall.com and JD.com to explore deeper cooperation, de Groot said.
