New air charter company to take off

THE east China civil aviation watchdog has accepted an application from Shanghai Deer Jet Co Ltd to launch a private jet charter business.

It will become the first specialized air charter company in Shanghai. The company expects to get approval by June, the Oriental Morning Post reported today.

The charter costs are expected to be between 25,000 yuan (US$3,655) and 45,000 yuan an hour, a civil aviation insider said. A trip from Shanghai to Guangzhou with up to 10 passengers could cost 180,000 yuan.

The country's booming economy and improved transportation systems are advancing growth in the sector. In Shanghai, local corporate flights have increased 15 percent annually.

At present there are only four companies with registered charters in China. They are Deer Jet, a unit of Hainan Airlines Group; Air China, the country's flag carrier; Shanghai Airlines and Shandong Airlines.

Sixty percent of the Shanghai Airlines charter business goes to Chinese clients and 22 percent of them are business people from Zhejiang Province.
