Returnees in high demand, report states

NEARLY half of China's companies are willing to offer Chinese jobseekers who graduated overseas salaries higher than 12,000 yuan (US$1,778.62) a month, while research and development positions are in greatest need of overseas graduates, recruitment portal 51job.com said in a report today.
Half a million overseas graduates are expected to look for jobs in China this year, 7 percent more than last year, according to the 2017 Overseas Graduates Survey Report.
That compared with 79.5 million graduates from domestic colleges and universities this year, of which about 80 percent will enter the job market, 51job.com said.
The survey found companies are willing to offer higher salaries to returnees, with 49 percent saying they would offer monthly salaries above 12,000 yuan.
Eight percent of respondents said they would offer salaries above 20,000 yuan for overseas graduates, compared with only 1 percent of respondents who would offer such salaries to homegrown graduates.
A total of 46 percent of employees said they are looking for overseas returnees to fulfill research and development positions, 43 percent said they want professional services talent, and 30 percent require marketing professionals, according to the survey.
Foreign language skills are perceived as the top advantage of overseas graduates compared with their domestic peers, followed by stronger adaptability and work initiative.
