Shanghai Auto Show’s lights on with new technology

SMART driving technologies, covering advanced navigation, wireless connection, artificial intelligence and cloud computing, shined in the Auto Shanghai Show’s media day today, representing the digitization trend and lifestyle of Chinese young consumers.

The show will be opened to the general public on Friday at the National Exhibition and Convention Center (Shanghai).

Though some smart driving technologies are adopted in concept models only, both domestic and international brands released and displayed the technologies as they “representing young and the future”.

Digitization, sustainability and urbanization are top three corporate strategies in China, said Audi executives who saw great business opportunities for China’s 1.1 billion mobile users. Audi, as one of the top three luxury brands BBA (Benz, BMW and Audi) in China, displayed RS7 piloted driving concept model feature “self-driving” technologies.

Smart features will woo young consumers in China, who pursue both luxury experience and mobile Internet services, said Zhang Pijie, president of FAW-Volkswagen Automobile Co, Audi’s partner in China.

Lincoln, which delivered 11,731 vehicles in China in the first quarter as a growth of 114 percent year-on-year, expected the trend as “personal luxury” on innovation on smarting technology and hybrid energy.

Its new midsize premium sedan Lincoln MKZ Hybrid features consumers 10.1-inch configurable LCD gauge cluster and efficiency driving based on hybrid.

Jaguar Land Rover displayed wearable devices including self-brand wristband in the booth, which supports wireless connection and control for cars without traditional keys.

Domestic brand Changan also announced cooperation with Intel, the US-based chip giant, to tap smart driving technologies during the auto show.

Local Internet giants like Baidu and Alibaba-invested provider also displayed smart driving, artificial intelligence and navigation technologies in the show.
