Shanghai people the smartest in dealing with telecom fraud

SHANGHAI residents are the most capable of identifying telecom fraud among major cities and provinces in China, a report said today.
Phone users in Shanghai, Beijing, and Jiangsu Province can react most quickly to telecom fraud and hang up, Zhong An Online Property and Casualty Co said in a report.
China's eastern areas overall perform better than western areas in recognizing fraud calls, it said.
The online insurer's report is based on data of its telecom fraud insurance policy holders and database of telecom fraud blacklists.
Guangdong Province is the favorite destination of telecom fraud callers, as the province receives nearly a fifth of total fraud calls in China, it said.
Beijing, Guangdong Province, and Tianjin are most violently attacked by telecom frauds with the highest number of calls each phone user receives.
The report said telecom frauds are most likely to occur during Friday to Monday between 8:00 to 11:00 AM.
The calls are usually made with people with strong accent using phone numbers starting with 400 or mobile numbers starting with 17, Zhong An said.
The insurer said it has paid nearly 1 billion yuan of compensation for policy holders of its telecom fraud insurance since the product was introduced in May last year.
